Kingstown is the capital and largest city of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, on the island of Saint Vincent, and has the country's main port. It was founded by French settlers shortly after 1722. A cruise port guide says ships dock at Kingstown, and our sources give no distance from the dock to town.

Top 3 things to do
1. Fort Charlotte
A British fort built on a hill above the harbor, finished by 1806 and standing 601 feet (183 metres) above the sea. From it you can see Kingstown, Young Island, Bequia and the Grenadines, and on a clear day Grenada, 90 miles to the south.
Tip: Wikipedia puts it west of the town. Our sources give no distance from the dock, no walking time and no opening hours.
2. The botanical garden
A botanical garden conceived in 1765, one of the oldest in the Western Hemisphere. William Bligh, of the Bounty mutiny, brought breadfruit seed here around 1793.
Tip: Our sources give no opening hours or distance from the dock.

3. La Soufriere, the volcano
An active volcano with a crater lake, at the north end of the island. It last erupted in 2021. Wikipedia says that in quiet periods visitors can follow a hiking trail through rainforest up to the rim.
Tip: Our sources do not say whether the trail is open now, or how long the trip takes from the ship, so ask locally before you plan around it.

What to skip
Counting on the volcano trail
The volcano erupted as recently as April 2021, and a cruise port guide notes that the island was evacuated by ship that month. Whether a hike is open on your day is a question for local guides.

Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
