Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, with 655,468 people in 2022, and Wikipedia calls its port Europe's largest seaport. A cruise port guide says the cruise terminal is on Wilhelmina Pier, west of the Erasmus Bridge on the south bank of the River Maas, with the city's Central Station nearby. The former Holland America liner SS Rotterdam, now a hotel, sits beside the terminal parking.

Top 3 things to do
1. The Markthal
A building with a market hall underneath and 228 apartments around it, designed by MVRDV and opened on 1 October 2014. The ceiling carries an 11,000 square meter artwork called Horn of Plenty, and the retail space is 4,600 square meters.
Tip: Our sources give no opening hours or walking time from the pier.

2. The Cube Houses
Piet Blom's tilted homes on Overblaak street, directly above Blaak metro station: 38 small cubes and two larger "super-cubes" joined together. The walls and windows are angled at 54.7 degrees. One owner runs a "show cube", furnished as an ordinary home, that offers tours.
Tip: The metro station sits right under them, which is useful for finding them.

3. The Euromast
A tower built in 1958 to 1960 for the Floriade garden show. Its roof is 104 m (341 feet) high, the antenna spire reaches 184.6 m (606 feet), and the observation platform is 96 m (315 feet) up. Wikipedia lists a restaurant too.
Tip: Our sources give no opening hours or travel time to it from the pier.

What to skip
Amsterdam on a short call
A cruise port guide puts Amsterdam about 70 km (45 miles) away and gives no travel time for it. Delft, about 16 km (10 miles) to the north-northwest, is much nearer, and the three sights above are in Rotterdam itself.
Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
