Facts checked Nov 6, 2026, each with its source. No prices on this page.
Chan May is a cargo port that cruise ships use on calls sold as Hue or Da Nang, and passengers are taken to town by bus. A cruise port guide says to allow about 75 to 90 minutes each way to Da Nang and about two hours to Hoi An. It gives no travel time from Chan May to Hue, so ask your ship. Da Nang is the fourth largest city in Vietnam.

Top 3 things to do
1. Hue Imperial City
A walled fortress and royal palace, a UNESCO site since 1993. Hue was the capital under the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 to 1945.
Tip: A cruise port guide says it is best seen on an organized excursion matched to the ship timetable, and that Hue and Hoi An should not be combined on a normal short call.

2. Hoi An Ancient Town
An old town known for its pagodas and merchant houses, and a separate trip from the port area.
Tip: A cruise port guide says a focused visit of 2.5 to 3 hours in the old town is the most to plan for, and from Chan May the road alone is about two hours each way. Choose an organized excursion.

3. Marble Mountains
A hill of pagodas, caves and viewpoints. A cruise port guide names Thuy Son as the main mountain to visit and suggests 1.5 to 2 hours. A stone carving village at the foot of the mountains has a craft listed as national intangible heritage in 2014.
Tip: From Chan May allow 75 to 90 minutes each way to Da Nang, so this suits an organized excursion more than a plan on your own.

What to skip
Ba Na Hills and the Golden Bridge from Chan May
A cruise port guide says this needs a dedicated outing because road travel and cable car queues can use up the day. Wikipedia gives the cable car as 5 km long, rising to a peak at 1,487 metres. With 75 to 90 minutes of road each way from Chan May, our sources give no sign it fits a normal call.

Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
