Lanzarote: when your ship stops here

A fisherman lagoon in town, a fortress that holds modern art, and a volcano park for a ship tour.

Facts checked Nov 6, 2026, each with its source. No prices on this page.

Ships here call at Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain, which has been the island capital since 1852 and has about 52,000 people in the city itself (2025). A cruise port guide says the closer berths are beside Marina Lanzarote and the center is generally a walk; the Muelle de los Marmoles pier is about a 30 minute walk from downtown and has shuttles and taxis.

Top 3 things to do

  1. 1. Charco de San Gines and the seafront

A man made lagoon used by fishermen, next to the town beach, Playa del Reducto. A cruise port guide suggests a relaxed call around the seafront, the lagoon and the beach.

Tip: A cruise port guide says central Arrecife and the lagoon take about 2 to 4 hours on foot. Cruise lines often run a shuttle near the lagoon, but whether yours does depends on the ship.

  2. 2. Castillo de San Jose

An 18th century fortress that now holds a collection of modern art.

Tip: Our sources give no opening hours and no distance from the pier, so ask on the day.

  3. 3. Timanfaya National Park

The best known shore tour on Lanzarote, often joined with the volcanic vineyards of La Geria and southern viewpoints. A cruise port guide says access to the protected volcanic route is controlled and queues can change your timing.

Tip: A cruise port guide says a ship tour or a well timed tour is safer than trying a plain public bus. Treat it as a day of its own.

What to skip

  • Jameos del Agua and Timanfaya on the same call

A cruise port guide says Jameos del Agua, a volcanic tube with architecture by Cesar Manrique, needs 1 to 2 hours at the site, and that Timanfaya and the north of the island are better treated as separate routes. Seeing both needs most of the day and a private car or tour.

Before you go ashore

You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
