Okinawa (Naha): when your ship stops here
A mile-long shopping street, a covered market, and the royal castle of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Facts checked Nov 5, 2026, each with its source. No prices on this page.
Ships call at Naha, the capital of Okinawa, which had about 313,000 people in 2025. A cruise port guide gives the terminal address as Tondocho 2-1 and says the nearest train station, Kencho-mae, is a 15 minute walk from it. A new cruise terminal is being built, due for completion by 31 March 2028, so the berth may change.

Top 3 things to do
1. Kokusai-dori
The main street of Naha, a stretch of stores, restaurants and bars 1.6 km (1 mile) long.
Tip: The Yui Rail monorail is the only train system in Okinawa and runs through town; ask at the gangway where the nearest stop is.

2. Makishi Public Market and Tsuboya
A large covered market with stalls of fresh fish, meat and produce, with restaurants and shops. Just outside it is Tsuboya, once a major centre of pottery making.
Tip: Opening hours are not in our sources, so check them on the day.

3. Shuri Castle
The palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom from 1429 to 1879, a World Heritage Site since 2000. It was almost completely destroyed in 1945 in the Battle of Okinawa, rebuilt, and then its main courtyard buildings burned on the morning of 31 October 2019.
Tip: Wikipedia says the rebuilding is due to be finished in autumn 2026 and lists the main castle as closed to visitors because of the fire, so check what is open on your day before you take a taxi to it.

What to skip
The Churaumi Aquarium on a short call
The aquarium, with its 7,500,000 litre Kuroshio Sea tank, is in Motobu inside Ocean Expo Park, not in Naha. Our sources give no travel time from the port, so ask for one before you book it.
Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
