Valencia: when your ship stops here
A modern city of science and art in an old river bed, a medieval silk exchange and a lagoon to the south.
Facts checked Nov 6, 2026, each with its source. No prices on this page.
Valencia is a city on the east coast of Spain, with 841,558 people in 2025. Our sources do not agree on how far the cruise port is from the center, so ask on board how you will get into town and when the last shuttle or bus back leaves.

Top 3 things to do
1. The City of Arts and Sciences
A group of modern buildings at the southeast end of the old Turia riverbed, which was drained after the 1957 flood and became a sunken park. It holds a science museum, an IMAX cinema and planetarium, an opera house and L'Oceanografic, an open-air ocean park that Wikipedia calls the largest in Europe, with over 500 species.
Tip: Our sources give no opening hours or travel time from the port, so ask on board before you plan this stop.

2. La Lonja de la Seda
The silk exchange, a 14th century building that a cruise port guide lists among the sights of Valencia, with the Gothic cathedral (13th to 15th centuries) and two gates from the old city walls.
Tip: Our sources give no opening times, so treat this as a look from the street unless you check.
3. The Albufera lagoon
A lagoon about 12 km south of the city, now freshwater, used for growing rice, hunting and fishing. It is the core of the Albufera Nature Park, 21,120 hectares, a natural park since 1976.
Tip: It is 12 km out, so it needs a tour or a taxi, and a long call.

What to skip
Fitting everything into one short call
The sights sit in different parts of the city and the lagoon is 12 km south. On a short call, choose one area and keep your return time in view.

Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
