Honolulu is the capital and most populous city of Hawaii, on the southeast coast of the island of Oahu, with 350,964 people at the 2020 census. A cruise port guide says the cruise terminal sits between Waikiki Beach and the airport, 3 miles (5 km) from Waikiki and 6 miles (10 km) from the airport, next to the Aloha Tower at Pier 9. Norwegian Pride of America uses a separate terminal, Pier 2, about 400 m south.

Top 3 things to do
1. Aloha Tower
A working lighthouse on the waterfront that was for many years the tallest building in Hawaii. A cruise port guide says it is next to the cruise terminal and has restaurants, bars and shops.
Tip: It is beside the pier, so it fits any length of call. Our sources give no opening hours.

2. Iolani Palace and the Capitol District
The Capitol District is the historic center of Hawaii government. It holds the State Capitol, Iolani Palace, Honolulu Hale (City Hall), the State Library and the statue of King Kamehameha I. Iolani Palace was built by the kings after the capital moved to Honolulu in 1845.
Tip: Our sources give no distance from the pier, opening hours or tour times, so ask on the day.

3. Waikiki
The tourist district between the Ala Wai Canal and the Pacific, next to Diamond Head, with hotels, shops and nightlife along Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues. A cruise port guide gives 3 miles (5 km) from the terminal.
Tip: A cruise port guide says the terminal is easy to reach by taxi or Oahu public transport, which includes 4 trolley lines. It gives no ride time.

What to skip
The Hawaii Maritime Center
A cruise port guide places it near the Aloha Tower and says the museum is closed to the public, so do not plan a visit.
Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
