Why Vancouver works for a back-to-back
- Alaska itineraries vary more than Caribbean ones. Consecutive weeks can visit genuinely different glaciers and towns, so a back-to-back is not a repeat.
- The season is short, roughly May through September, which concentrates inventory and makes back-to-backs easier to find within it.
- Weather is the wildcard in Alaska, and two weeks doubles your chances of getting the clear day at Hubbard or Tracy Arm that makes the trip.
Turnaround day at Vancouver
Canada Place is downtown and turnaround involves Canadian border processing. Consecutive cruisers who clear early have all of downtown Vancouver on their doorstep, which is one of the better turnaround days available.
Getting there
The Canada Line train runs from the airport to a station a short walk from Canada Place, which is unusually civilised. US citizens need a passport since this is an international departure.

Is a back-to-back Alaska cruise worth it?
More than in most regions. Alaska itineraries differ substantially week to week, glacier viewing is heavily weather-dependent, and the flights north are expensive enough that spreading them across two weeks changes the maths considerably.
