Why Los Angeles works for a back-to-back

• The Mexican Riviera runs on a repeating weekly pattern out of San Pedro, so consecutive sailings chain cleanly. Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta anchor most itineraries.
• Short 3- and 4-night Ensenada runs sit alongside the full weeks, which makes for a cheap way to extend a trip by a few nights at either end.
• In spring and autumn Los Angeles becomes a repositioning port, and a transpacific or Panama Canal leg occasionally chains onto a Mexico week. Those are the long, strange, wonderful chains.

Turnaround day at Los Angeles

The World Cruise Center at San Pedro is a calmer terminal than the Florida ports. Consecutive cruisers clear customs in a group and reboard quickly, often with time to walk into San Pedro itself before the new passengers arrive.

Getting there

Traffic is the variable, not distance. LAX to San Pedro is under 25 miles and can take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. If you are chaining sailings and flying in the day before, stay in Long Beach or San Pedro rather than near the airport.
