Ocho Rios: when your ship stops here
A waterfall that runs into the sea, a fern lined road, and a mountain with a bobsled.
Facts checked Nov 6, 2026, each with its source. No prices on this page.
Ocho Rios is a town in Saint Ann Parish on the north coast of Jamaica, with 16,671 people at the 2011 census. The name is Spanish for Eight Rivers, which Wikipedia calls a possible misnomer. A cruise port guide names two piers, Ocho Rios Pier and Reynolds Pier, which was upgraded to handle larger ships, and it does not say which one a given ship uses. It gives no distance to town, no walking time and no shuttle details.

Top 3 things to do
1. Dunn River Falls
A waterfall about 180 feet (55 metres) high and 600 feet (180 metres) long. It is one of the very few travertine waterfalls in the world that empties directly into the sea. Climbing it is a popular activity, usually 1 to 1.5 hours, often led by guides holding hands, and stairs run alongside for visitors who want to stay out of the water.
Tip: Wikipedia says the town name likely refers to these falls. Our sources give no distance from the pier or opening hours.
2. Fern Gully
A road about 4.8 km (3 miles) long with over 540 varieties of ferns. A 1907 earthquake destroyed a river bed there, which was later paved over to form the Fern Gully Highway.
Tip: Our sources give no tour details, so ask on the day how it fits your call.

3. Mystic Mountain
An attraction that opened in 2008 with a bobsled experience, and later got a large upgrade in 2019.
Tip: Our sources give no opening hours, ride prices or distance from the pier, so check before you plan around it.

What to skip
Expecting a walk to everything from the pier
A cruise port guide gives no distance from the piers to the town or the craft market, and Wikipedia says Ocho Rios stretches 6.4 km (4 miles) along the coast. Check with your cruise line before you plan a walk.

Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
