Ajaccio: when your ship stops here
The house where Napoleon was born, a Renaissance art museum and an old town an easy walk away.
Facts checked Nov 6, 2026, each with its source. No prices on this page.
Ajaccio is the main town of the French island of Corsica, with 76,320 people in the 2023 census. A cruise port guide says the old town and Place Foch are about 0.3 to 0.5 km from the terminal, a 5 to 10 minute walk, that a shuttle is not normally needed for city sightseeing, and that there is a taxi rank near the terminal. It also says berths depend on ship size and traffic, so check the ship's daily program.

What to skip
The Sanguinaires viewpoint on a short call
Pointe de la Parata, with a view of the Sanguinaires Islands, is about 11 km (6.8 miles) from central Ajaccio, and the cruise port guide recommends a taxi for it. It is a good use of a long call, not a short one.
Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
