Grand Cayman: when your ship stops here
Seven Mile Beach, the stingrays on the sandbar, and the museum in town; Hell is a photo stop.

George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands, on the island of Grand Cayman, and the largest town in all the British Overseas Territories. There is no cruise pier: ships anchor off George Town and small boats called tenders carry everyone ashore. In May 2025 the islands voted on building a pier and said no, about 65 percent to 30, so the tenders stay.

Top 3 things to do
1. Seven Mile Beach
A long crescent of coral sand on the west of the island, just north of George Town: a bit over 6 miles (10 km) in a generous count, about 6 miles of unbroken sand. It is public property, so you can walk its whole length whatever hotel stands behind it. Small reefs lie just off shore for snorkelling, one of them just north of the public beach.
Tip: Hurricane Helene in 2024 washed away a lot of sand at the ends, so some stretches are narrower than the pictures.
2. Stingray City
Two sandbars in the North Sound, just inside the barrier reef, where southern stingrays gather. Fishermen used to clean their catch here, and the rays learned to come to the sound of boat engines. Tour boats take you out and you stand in about 3 feet of water while the rays glide past; the deeper bar is for divers.
Tip: Dozens of rays come to the feeding spot, and feeding changes how they live, so let the crew handle the food and keep your own hands to yourself.
3. The National Museum and George Town on foot
The Cayman Islands National Museum is in the Old Courts Building at Shedden Road and Harbour Drive, a building more than 150 years old that has been a court, a jail and the island's first post office. About half the Cayman population lives in George Town.
Tip: This is the choice on a tender day: no boat and no taxi needed.
What to skip
Hell
A patch of black, jagged limestone in West Bay about the size of half a football field, which you look at from platforms; you may not walk on it. There is a red post office for postcards from Hell and a gift shop. Fun for a photo, not worth a chunk of a short day.

Before you go ashore
You do not have to book a tour: you are free to go ashore on your own. Royal Caribbean sets the all aboard time about 30 minutes before the ship sails, posts it near the gangway, and says the ship does not wait for guests touring on their own.
