How Much More Is an Ocean View Cabin Than an Interior on Royal Caribbean?
The step from an interior to an ocean view cabin is about the same size as the step from an ocean view to a balcony. On a third of cruises it is under ten percent. On some ship classes it is more than twice that.
An ocean view cabin costs a median 14% more than an interior on the same Royal Caribbean cruise. That is about $102 per person, or $20 a night. For about one cruise in three, the step is under 10%. For about one in thirty, it is 50% or more.
Every number comes from our own price data, as captured on 22 October 2026. For 1,822 cruises that leave between 1 November 2026 and 31 October 2027, we divided the lowest ocean view fare by the lowest interior fare, per person, taxes and port fees included. The box at the bottom says exactly how. This is what Royal Caribbean is asking today, not what anyone paid.
The step up, cruise by cruise
The middle cruise has an ocean view 14% above the interior. The spread is wide, so the table splits the cruises by how big the step is.
| How much more is the ocean view? | Share of cruises |
|---|---|
| Under 5% more | 12% |
| Under 10% more | 33% |
| Under 25% more | 81% |
| 50% more or higher | 3% |
| No more, or less than the interior | 2.0% |
1,822 cruises with both fares. Lowest fare per person for each cabin type, taxes and port fees included, 22 October 2026. The first three rows overlap: a cruise under 5% is also under 10% and under 25%.
The whole ladder
The balcony is the next step. Among the 1,790 cruises that also have a balcony fare, a balcony costs a median 13% more than an ocean view, and 31% more than an interior. The two steps are about the same size. If the interior is 100, the ocean view is about 114 and the balcony about 131. For 43% of cruises the balcony is less than 10% above the ocean view, so if you are weighing an ocean view, look at the balcony price too. Our post on what a balcony costs has the balcony step in full.
Ship class decides the step
The step is not the same on every ship. On Radiance Class ships it is 9%. On Freedom Class ships it is 22%. In dollars the largest is Icon Class, at $261 per person.
| Ship class | Cruises | Ocean view, more than interior | Dollars a guest | Dollars a night |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freedom Class | 187 | 22% | $140 | $25 |
| Voyager Class | 256 | 20% | $158 | $25 |
| Icon Class | 180 | 16% | $261 | $37 |
| Oasis Class | 417 | 13% | $99 | $21 |
| Quantum Class | 303 | 13% | $102 | $21 |
| Vision Class | 201 | 11% | $90 | $14 |
| Radiance Class | 278 | 9% | $50 | $11 |

How much more an ocean view costs than an interior, by ship class, middle 80% of cruises
Each bar runs from the 10th to the 90th percentile of the step, so it shows where most cruises sit. 22 October 2026.
Ships where the step is small, and where it is big
Among ships with 40 or more cruises in the data, the smallest steps are on Brilliance of the Seas (8%, $43), Grandeur of the Seas (9%, $79), Jewel of the Seas (9%, $51). The biggest are on Mariner of the Seas (29%, $230), Explorer of the Seas (24%, $164), Freedom of the Seas (24%, $156). A large percent on a low fare can be a small number of dollars, so the figures show both.
Longer cruises, bigger step in dollars
| Length | Cruises | Ocean view, more than interior | Dollars a guest |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 to 5 nights | 860 | 13% | $73 |
| 6 to 7 nights | 761 | 15% | $140 |
| 8 to 11 nights | 178 | 16% | $198 |
| 12 nights or more | 23 | 26% | $292 |
Middle cruise in each length. Lowest fare per person, taxes and port fees included, 22 October 2026.
From 3 to 11 nights the percent hardly changes, between 13% and 16%. The dollars do change, because the fare is bigger on a longer cruise. Cruises of 12 nights or more have a bigger percent, 26%, but there are only 23 of them.
What to do with this
Do not decide on the percent. Decide on the dollars for your own cruise. Look up the interior and ocean view fares for the cruise you want and subtract. The middle gap is $102 per person: a gap well under that is a good step up for this data, and a gap well over it is not. On a leg-to-leg trip each leg is its own cruise with its own step, so the cabin that is the bargain on one leg may not be on the next. How the legs join up is in the back-to-back guide.
What this does not tell you
- It is the lowest fare in each cabin type. The cheapest ocean view cabin may be on a low deck, and the one you want may cost more.
- It does not say which cabins have a view. Cabin types are as Royal Caribbean sorts them.
- It is fare only. Gratuities, drinks and flights are not in it.
- 31 priced cruises had no ocean view fare and are left out of this post.
- This is one day of fares, 22 October 2026. Fares move daily, and nothing here is a quote.
Sailings with no fare
40 cruises in the 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027 window had no interior fare on 22 October. They are shown as unpriced on the site, never estimated, and left out of every figure here. We also left out 15 priced cruises on Hero of the Seas, which has not entered service yet, 182 cruise-and-land-tour packages, because a tour fare covers days on land, and 13 cruises of 2 nights.
