Luggage and Sea Pass Between Back-to-Back Legs: What Royal Caribbean Says
Each leg has its own booking and its own luggage tags. Here is what Royal Caribbean says about bags, your new Sea Pass card, and the help it gives between legs.
Royal Caribbean treats each leg of a back-to-back as its own cruise, so each leg has its own luggage tag and its own booking. The line has a page for guests who stay aboard from one voyage to the next. This is what that page says, and what the luggage pages add.
What the line says it does between legs
Royal Caribbean’s page, What can I expect between consecutive cruises, lists what a guest continuing on the same ship gets:
- Help with your main dining room seating requests for the next cruise, made ahead of time.
- Continued use of your stateroom, including the TV in the room.
- A notice about turnaround day immigration, whether you plan to stay aboard or go ashore.
- Fewer ship-wide announcements. Departure updates are kept to the departure lounges and the TV in your room.
- A hot breakfast in the dining room or the cafe. Suite guests get a continental breakfast hosted by guest services or the concierge.
- Staff on hand to answer questions.
- Your new Sea Pass card, before you get off. The page says you receive it before disembarking.
Our turnaround day guide tells the day itself. The new card is the line on that list that people forget, so look for it in your hands before you leave the ship.
Luggage tags: one set for each leg
Royal Caribbean’s guest document, the eDocs you print or download before you sail, includes a bag tag. The page says the tag is specific to the ship, the sailing date, the stateroom and the deck number. A second leg is a second sailing, so it has its own details. Our guide to missing the ship notes that the two legs also have two booking numbers.
If you forget your tags at home, the line says the porters at the pier have ship luggage tags on boarding day. It also says it is better to have them before you leave home so there is no delay on the day.
Bags can arrive after the ship sails
The line says that because so many bags arrive on embarkation day, luggage may arrive after the sailaway. A delivery time window and the pick up places are posted in the Cruise Compass once you are onboard. Times and places vary by ship and sailing. If a bag has a prohibited item in it, the line puts it in a separate pick up area.
That page is about embarkation day. It says nothing about guests who stay aboard, so we cannot tell you how a bag moves if you change cabins between legs. The letter you get in your stateroom before turnaround tells you what to do. Read it, and ask your stateroom attendant if it is not clear.
What to keep in your carry-on
- Medications. The line suggests all medications go in your carry-on and stay in their original, labeled prescription containers.
- What you need before your bags arrive. That is our own advice: swimwear, a change of clothes and chargers. The ship does not promise a delivery time.
- Documents. Passport or birth certificate explains what the trip needs, especially if the last leg ends somewhere else.
How much luggage
The line says each guest may carry a reasonable amount of personal property, including luggage, aboard, and recommends that you limit the number of pieces. It gives no number of bags. For two legs that matters, because you pack once and you cannot wash in the cabin. See Laundry on a Long or Back-to-Back Cruise.
At the end of the last leg
Royal Caribbean offers Luggage Valet, a paid service you buy on the ship. You check in for your flight on board and your bags go from the ship to the airport. The page says it costs $29 per person for Sky, Sea and Star Class guests, your flight must leave the same day the ship arrives, and the first flight must be with a participating airline. It does not include a ride to the airport, and airline baggage fees may still apply. Ask Guest Relations on board if your port qualifies.
Plan for it
- Download the eDocs for each leg and print the tags for each.
- Put medications, one change of clothes and swimwear in your carry-on.
- On turnaround day, check that you have your new Sea Pass card before you leave the ship.
- Use legtolegcruises.com to find two legs on the same ship in the same port.
