A Suite Costs 1.7 Times a Balcony on Royal Caribbean

A Royal Caribbean cruise costs a middle $143 a night inside, $197 with a balcony and $348 in a suite. The jump to a suite is the big one.

A suite on a Royal Caribbean cruise costs a middle 1.7 times the balcony fare for the same sailing: about $720 more per person for the cruise. Across 1,762 sailings with both a balcony and a suite fare, 30% of suites are under 1.5 times the balcony and 30% are 2 times or more. The ship matters most: from 2.5 times on Harmony of the Seas to 1.1 times on Vision of the Seas.

Every number comes from our own price data, as captured on 19 October 2026. For each sailing we took the lowest fare per person in each cabin type, taxes and port fees included, and compared the suite with the balcony on the same sailing. The box at the bottom says exactly how. A fare is what Royal Caribbean asks today for a sailing that has not left yet, and it moves daily.

The whole ladder, inside to suite

On the 1,744 sailings that show all four cabin types, the middle night costs $143 in an inside cabin, $166 in an ocean view, $197 with a balcony and $348 in a suite. An ocean view adds 14% to the inside fare and a balcony adds another 13% on top of that, 31% over inside in all. The suite is the big jump: 72% over the balcony and 2.3 times the inside cabin.

Lowest fare per person in each cabin type, taxes and port fees included, for the 1,744 priced sailings leaving 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027 that show all four types, priced on 19 October 2026. The last column is the middle of each sailing's own ratio, so it will not exactly match a ratio of the middles.

The ship decides how big the jump is

On the Oasis Class ships a suite costs a middle 2.0 times a balcony, and one sailing in ten is 3.8 times or more. On the older Vision Class ships it is only 1.2 times, a $320 step. Icon Class has the biggest dollar gap, a middle $1,500 per person, but its balconies are already dear, so the ratio is a middle 1.7.

How many times a balcony a suite costs, by ship class

Lowest suite fare divided by lowest balcony fare for the same sailing, taxes and port fees included, for cruises leaving 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027, as priced on 19 October 2026. 1x would mean the same price. Each bar runs from the 10th to the 90th percentile of the sailings in that class. The note beside it gives the middle and the number of sailings.

Ships with at least 30 sailings that show both a balcony and a suite fare, leaving 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027, priced on 19 October 2026. Hero of the Seas (15 sailings, enters service August 2027) is left out. Extra for a suite is the middle of suite fare minus balcony fare per person, taxes and port fees included.

Sailing in summer shrinks the gap

In the winter months (November to February) a suite costs a middle 2.1 times the balcony. In the summer months (May to October) it costs 1.6 times. The reason is the balcony, not the suite: the middle balcony night goes from $179 in winter to $216 in summer, while the middle suite night goes from $373 to $345. When everyone wants a balcony, the suite looks better value by comparison. The mix of ships and ports changes with the season too, so read this as a pattern, not a rule.

Short and long cruises

Length changes the ratio only a little. On three, four and five nights a suite costs about 1.6 times the balcony. On six to nine nights it is about 1.8 times. The dollar gap grows with the length, from a middle $430 on three nights to $1,180 on seven.

What a suite fare means, and what it does not

Royal Caribbean lists several kinds of suite. Our figure is the lowest suite fare on sale for the sailing, so it moves up when the cheapest suites sell out. That is why a few sailings jump a long way: 141 of the 1,762 are 3 times the balcony or more, and the widest, a 2026 sailing of Star of the Seas, shows a balcony at $1,658 and a suite at $31,816. We use middles throughout so that one sailing like that does not move the numbers. We do not say what a suite includes beyond the room. Check Royal Caribbean's own page for that.

If your offer covers a balcony fare, the useful question is how much more the suite costs on top. Our balcony post shows the step from an inside cabin up to a balcony, ship by ship. Our worth of a Club Royale offer shows how big an offer is in dollars, and our price per night by ship shows the inside-cabin price for each ship.

What this does not tell you

  • The suite is the lowest suite fare on sale that day, not a particular suite. The grade of suite can change from one capture to the next.
  • It is not a recommendation. A suite includes more than a bigger room, and we have not measured the rest.
  • Ship, season, port and length are mixed in each table. Where a table sorts by one, the others move with it.
  • Fares are per person as Royal Caribbean prices a cabin for two guests sharing it. A solo guest pays more.
  • This is one day of fares, 19 October 2026. Fares move daily, and nothing here is a quote.

Sailings with no fare

29 cruises in the window had no fare at all when we looked, and 105 of the 1,891 priced cruises show no suite fare (42 show no balcony fare). They are left out of the figures that need those cabins and are never estimated. We also left out 179 cruise-and-land-tour packages.

How we measured this

Data date: 19 October 2026. Source: the legtolegcruises.com price history, the nightly capture of Royal Caribbean fares. We took the lowest fare per person for each cabin type (inside, ocean view, balcony, suite), taxes and port fees included, for every sailing leaving 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027 (2,099 sailings in the window; 1,920 cruises after removing 179 cruise-and-land-tour packages; 1,891 with a fare). The suite-against-balcony figures use the 1,762 sailings that show both a balcony and a suite fare: for each, suite divided by balcony. The ladder uses the 1,744 sailings that show all four types. Each figure is a middle (median) unless it says otherwise, and typical range means the 10th to the 90th percentile. Winter is November to February (519 sailings) and summer is May to October (946). Ship class is as listed on our fleet pages. Sailings with no fare for a cabin type are left out and never estimated. Fares move daily.
