Club Royale, Explained: How Royal Caribbean’s Casino Rewards Actually Work

Club Royale is Royal Caribbean’s casino loyalty program, and it runs on a currency the rest of the ship never sees: tier credits. You earn them by playing in the onboard casino — slots, tables, video poker — and, crucially, you earn them on play, not on whether you win or lose. The house is rewarding your action, not your luck.
Earn enough tier credits and you climb the tiers — Choice, Prime, Signature, and Masters — each of which unlocks better perks and, more to the point, better offers. If you’ve ever gotten an email from Royal Caribbean promising a nearly-free cruise “on select sailings,” that’s a Club Royale offer, and it exists because the casino wants you back on a ship with a player’s card in the machine.
The three flavors of offer
Club Royale offers come in a few shapes, and knowing which one you’re holding changes how you should book it:
- Comped cruise (certificate) offers. The big ones. Royal Caribbean comps your cruise fare on select sailings — you pay taxes, fees, and gratuities. This is the offer that makes back-to-backs so cheap.
- Discounted-rate offers. Not free, but a reduced fare, sometimes with a set dollar amount off or a percentage off the second guest.
- FreePlay / instant-reward offers. Onboard casino credit or a small fixed reward that shows up as playable money once you’re aboard. These add value on the ship rather than reducing the fare.
The distinction matters because a FreePlay offer doesn’t lower what you pay to book — it hands you casino credit later — while a comp offer zeroes out the fare. Mixing them up is the most common Club Royale mistake we see.
Reading the fine print
Every offer carries a code (something like 26MIX408), a book-by date (the deadline to reserve, not to sail), a list of eligible ships and sailings, and terms on how many guests it covers. The second-guest question is the one that trips people up most — many comps cover the first guest’s fare and charge the second guest a fare or a discounted rate. How to actually use one
