Interior GTY and Guarantee Cabins: What Casino Comps Really Book

Why so many Club Royale offers say “Interior – GTY,” what a guarantee cabin actually is, and when it turns into a free upgrade.

Open almost any Club Royale comp offer and you’ll see the cabin type written as “Interior – GTY.” Two questions follow: what does GTY mean, and can I do better than an inside room? Both have satisfying answers.

What “GTY” means

GTY is short for guarantee. Instead of picking a specific stateroom, you’re guaranteed a cabin in that category — an interior, in this case — and Royal Caribbean assigns the exact room later, sometimes not until close to sailing. You give up choosing your location; in exchange, the category is locked in and the price (or comp) is set.

For a casino comp this is standard: the offer covers an interior guarantee, and the fare on that category is what gets zeroed out. You’ll see the specific cabin number appear on your reservation at some point before the cruise — occasionally the week of.

The upgrade that sometimes happens

Here’s the fun part. Because you’re guaranteed a category and Royal Caribbean controls the assignment, they’ll sometimes place you in a higher category than you booked — an oceanview, occasionally a balcony — if that’s where inventory shakes out. It’s not promised, you can’t request it, and you shouldn’t bank on it. But guarantee cabins are exactly the pool upgrades come from, so an interior GTY comp occasionally turns into a window with no extra charge.

When to pay up instead

Sometimes an offer lets you apply the comp’s value toward a better cabin and pay the difference. Whether that’s worth it is a personal call: on a 4-night Bahamas hop, an interior is fine; on a 10-night with sea days, a balcony earns its keep. The comp fixes your floor — a free interior — and everything above it is you choosing to spend.

One practical note for back-to-back guests: if you want to keep the same cabin across both legs, you generally can’t rely on two separate guarantees landing you in the same room. If staying put matters, ask about booking a specific cabin for both legs rather than two GTYs. It can cost a little more; it saves you moving your things on turnaround day.
