What this video covers
This cruise sails from Seattle to Alaska, and it stops in Canada. All 163 Alaska cruises the site tracks touch Canada, and not for the shopping. The reason is a law written in 1886, one sentence long. This video takes a week from Seattle, to Juneau, Skagway and Sitka with a last stop in Victoria, and follows the law along the way. It reads the 1886 sentence word for word in the library and shows how its fine grew from two dollars to nearly a thousand dollars a passenger.
Then it explains why the flag at the back of the ship matters, which ports count as nearby and which as far away, and why a one way Alaska cruise starts or ends in Vancouver. It finds the same rule everywhere, an American island that counts as foreign, and the one big ship in Hawaii that flies the American flag. Then comes the summer Canada closed its waters, when Congress passed a law pretending the ships had stopped there anyway. There are four rounds of True or False and seven rubber ducks stowed away. The counts are the site's own from 30 October 2026: 84 Alaska cruises from Seattle, 83 of them stopping in Victoria, and 36 one way cruises between Vancouver and Seward. This is how the rule works, not advice about any one trip.
Prices and counts in the video are from the day it was made, Nov 4, 2026. The finder always shows today's.
