What this video covers
Videos online say you can live on a cruise ship for 30,000 dollars a year. This video lines up more than 3,000 Royal Caribbean cruises back to back to find the cheapest full year you could actually book. Eleven ships run more than 300 nights without a gap, and six of them run a full year. The cheapest year is out of Tampa, switching between two ships twice: 61 cruises and 365 nights in an inside cabin, two people sharing, for 35,495 dollars each with every fare and tax. Staying on one ship the whole year, Radiance of the Seas, costs 40,509 dollars.
Add gratuities of 18.50 dollars a person every day and the cheapest year is 42,247 dollars a person, about 7,000 dollars a month for a couple. So the 30,000 dollar year does not exist from any home port the site tracks. A single cheap month does: Voyager of the Seas out of Los Angeles, five cruises and 30 nights for 2,056 dollars. But the cheap months do not join up into a year. Even if every cruise fare were free from casino offers, the taxes, fees and tips on that year come to 14,762 dollars a person, about 2,460 dollars a month for a couple, against a median American rent of 1,487 dollars. The advice: try a month, not a year.
